Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation

Mission Statement

The mission of the University of Vermont’s orthopaedic surgery residency is to provide comprehensive musculoskeletal training that supports patient care in all subspecialties. We are determined to provide a foundation for lifelong learning that includes operative and non-operative care in any practice environment, an experience in meaningful clinical and basic science research, and a fundamental skill set that supports professional and personal excellence. We aim to graduate residents who are technically proficient, who make evidence-based decisions, and who value patient relationships.  Our residents and faculty are committed to excellence in order to serve our community and health care system.

Program Overview

The Orthopedic Surgery Residency Training Program is designed to offer a broad exposure to orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation, both in the operative and non-operative treatment of patients, through evaluation of patients in the Emergency Room, clinics, wards, formal conferences, and research. Because of Burlington's unique geographic location, primary, secondary, and tertiary orthopedic care problems are readily available for residency training. The residency is approved for complete training in all aspects of orthopedic surgery as outlined by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
