The Residency Program in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Vermont (UVM) began in 1959 and it has grown to include twelve faculty members, each with a special area of expertise. Together, we can provide a comprehensive training experience in not only the general management of head and neck disorders, but we also offer training in otology, neurotology, skull-base surgery, facial plastic surgery, endoscopic sinus, laryngology, pediatric otolaryngology as well as endocrine surgery from a fellowship trained surgeon.
The Otolaryngology Division at the University of Vermont/UVM Medical Center receives complex referrals from the upper two-thirds of Vermont and a generous segment of upstate New York. Facial, plastic, and reconstructive surgery are performed by a fellowship trained facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon. Endocrine disorders of the thyroid and parathyroid glands are treated with current technology including diagnostic ultrasound. Diseases of the paranasal sinuses are managed with medical and surgical intervention with both open and functional endoscopic surgical techniques.
Two fellowship-trained pediatric otolaryngologists provide multidisciplinary pediatric otolaryngology care. A comprehensive voice and laryngology program provides videostroboscopy and all aspects of laryngeal surgery. Patients with obstructive sleep apnea and snoring are evaluated and treated with a variety of medical and surgical options, including hypoglossal nerve stimulator implantation. A comprehensive audiology and vestibular testing facility under the direction of three masters-trained audiologists provides complete diagnostic service and patient recommendations for effective amplification.
