Curriculum

The first year of fellowship is primarily devoted to clinical training, which is largely conducted in the outpatient clinic, where first year fellows attend approximately four to five half-day clinics per week.  In the second year, each fellow attends from two to four half-day clinics per week. Fellows follow their own patients for the entire two years of training. Fellow clinics are supervised by a faculty attending, and fellows work with all faculty attendings.

The second major component of clinical training is the inpatient service. Fellows spend approximately six months on the inpatient consult service each year. When on call, the fellow sees and follows all rheumatology consultations under supervision by faculty attendings.

Other required clinical rotations include Pediatric Rheumatology, Metabolic Bone, and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound.

An important component of the training program is to acquire knowledge of research principles and methods related to investigative medicine. Fellows are expected to engage in an original laboratory or clinical research project. Each fellow chooses a research mentor, and research project progress is reviewed by the program director and faculty.

We provide a variety of educational conferences, including USSONAR and on-site MSK ultrasound training and mentoring, attendance at ACR annual and regional meetings, and many others.
