Career Development

We emphasize individualized scholarly activity to meet each fellow's career and research goals. As such, fellows may elect to tailor their research and career development interests in one of three areas.

Research Scholar Pathway

Fellows electing this pathway are provided with close mentoring in development of independent research projects.  Fellows with an interest in clinical research are encouraged to be engaged in local management of clinical trials.  Fellows are able to attend courses through the Master of Public Health Program and the Vermont Center for Clinical and Translational Science, or to attend symposia as needed to facilitate research endeavors (recent examples have included attendance at ultrasound/echocardiography conferences).

Quality Improvement Pathway

Fellows electing this pathway will receive mentoring and education in quality improvement with faculty from the Vermont Oxford Network (VON). They are expected to participate in quality improvement teams and also conduct independent research in this area.  Quality Improvement Pathway fellows are given support towards regular attendance at regional and national quality improvement symposia, including the Vermont Oxford Network Annual Quality Congress.

Clinician Educator Pathway

Fellows electing this pathway are expected to become members of the Teaching Academy at the Robert Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont.  Fellows will receive education in conducting simulation through the Clinical Simulation Laboratory, as well as didactic education on teaching.  Fellows in this pathway may choose to conduct educational research as their independent scholarly project.  Past fellows have also attended coursework at the Harvard Macy Institute.
