Our one-year ACGME accredited program attracts both board-eligible internal medicine and family medicine residents. We are proud of our holistic view and unique outlook of both a primary care physician and a specialist in aging. We are experts in a large variety of age-related medical topics, and specialize in providing complex, comprehensive and personalized care.
Our emphasis on teaching and education will provide you with learning opportunities which include grand rounds, journal club, and fellow dedicated teaching sessions as well as inter professional learning with our Hospice and Palliative Care, Psychiatry and Internal Medicine and Family Medicine colleagues. As a fellow in our program you are also provided the opportunity to help with the education of residents and medical students.
Burlington, Vermont and its surrounding area is home to a socio-economically diverse patient population coming from both rural areas of Vermont and Northern New York and more densely populated cities and towns. Vermont is also a state that takes pride in being a welcoming space for refugee resettlement initiatives and providing culturally respectful and welcoming clinical care to this patient population. With the assistance of the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) over 8,000 refugees have started new lives in Vermont in the past 40 years. Refugees resettled in Vermont come primarily from Bhutan, Bosnia, Burma, Burundi, Congo Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq, Kosovo, Sudan, Somalia, Syria, and Vietnam and more recently from Afghanistan and the Ukraine.
We offer a longitudinal outpatient geriatric clinic and nursing home experience. Along with rotations at with hospice and palliative care, inpatient geriatric consults, geriatric psychiatry, home care/house calls rehabilitation and formal didactic teaching.
At the end of your one year of training with us you will be well trained clinically to provide compassionate and whole person care to your geriatric community. You will be ready to lead the way in the future of geriatric medicine in areas such as educational innovation, healthcare quality, and systems improvement.
