The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine offers a one-year ACGME accredited fellowship in cytopathology. The Medical Center Campus at UVM Medical Center is the primary site of fellowship training.
The program provides extensive training in all areas of Cytopathology, including gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens, and incorporates the performance of fine needle aspirations.
The Department utilizes developing techniologies within cytopathology, including thin layer, flow cytometric and immunocytochemical methodologies.
The Division of Cytopathology is also integrated into a multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Center, and sponsors a School of Cytotechnology. The fellow is expected to participate actively in clinical and didactic teaching activities involving medical students, residents, and clinical colleagues.
There is also opportunity to participate in research projects. Our clinical lab completes more than 2 million tests annually and in anatomic pathology, we perform over 40,000 surgical samples of which 14,000 are dermatopathology samples, 6,100 non-gynecologic cytology specimens of which 2,200 are fine needle aspirations, and over 24,000 gynecologic cytology, 450 bone marrows and 1800 flow cytometry specimens. All gynecologic samples are liquid based and are processed using the ThinPrep Imaging System.
Requirements
Board certified or eligible in AP or AP/CP.
Stipends
The appointment is for one year and the stipend is based upon an F-5 level.
