Letter From Stephen Leffler, MD
Dear nurse colleagues,
Just when it seemed as though we were clearing the pandemic, in December of 2021 we were pulled back in with the COVID-19 Omicron strain and the highest community prevalence of the virus we’d experienced. That, in combination with a national workforce shortage and many patients who had delayed care put a great deal of strain on everyone here at UVM Medical Center.
In spite of these challenges, we have continued delivering on our promise of high quality care for our community. Our nurses play a central role in the organization’s grit and resilience that has allowed us to continue our mission despite all that we’ve faced.
In the haste of our day to day, it can be easy to lose sight of the effect you have on our patients, our community and each other. These reports are intended to communicate our impact with the broader community, but they are also an opportunity for you to look back at all we’ve accomplished together. I hope you do so with immense pride. Nothing would be possible without you and your contributions.
Thank you,
Stephen Leffler, MD
President and COO, UVM Medical Center
