The Infectious Disease Clinic at the University of Vermont Medical Center performs about 1,500 inpatient consultations yearly from all hospital departments and specialties for a wide diversity of clinical illnesses. The outpatient clinic is active daily, providing care for persons with HIV and general infectious diseases, assisting with home intravenous antibiotic therapy and counseling and prevention for international travelers in the travel clinic.

Clinic services provided include:

  • Follow up for inpatient consultations to all hospital departments and specialty services.
  • Inpatient care for persons living with HIV requiring medical admission.
  • Outpatient primary and specialty care for persons living with HIV.
  • Outpatient infectious diseases consultation.
  • Counseling, preventive medicine and post-travel assessment for the international traveler.
  • Anonymous and confidential HIV testing.
  • Counseling and follow-up for sexual assault victims being treated to prevent HIV transmission.

Our Infectious Disease Team

The UVM Medical Center's Infectious Disease program is staffed by full time board-certified University of Vermont Medical Group physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, a dietician, social workers, support staff, clinical research coordinators and infection control practitioners.

In addition to the clinical duties at UVM Medical Center, the staff is dedicated to teaching and research in their academic roles at the University of Vermont College of Medicine.

The department has close working relationships with University of Vermont Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics and the Vermont Department of Health.

HIV Comprehensive Care

Providing care for those living with HIV is a strong focus of the staff. They coordinate four HIV specialty clinics (Comprehensive Care Clinics) throughout Vermont, supported by Ryan White CARE Act funding.

The HIV Comprehensive Care Clinics are a 4-clinic system providing state-of-the-art treatment for all stages of HIV. All services are confidential and the first visit is free. Services include: free HIV testing, prevention counseling, confidential services and state-of-the-art medical care.
