Message from the Director
Residents interested in training in Interventional Radiology find ample opportunities at the University of Vermont Medical Center. We offer Independent Residency training in Interventional Radiology, and welcome both ESIR and non-ESIR applicants.
As the largest hospital and the only academic medical center in Vermont, the breadth of clinical experience we offer is immense. Our extensive referral network ensures frequent exposure to complex patients, and our role as the community hospital for the Burlington area translates into full spectrum training in general IR. This combination of tertiary subspecialty IR as well as more general cases allows our graduates to excel in any future practice setting after they complete their training. For those interested in research, we offer opportunities for clinical research.
The Radiology Department encourages education at all levels, and so medical students from the Larner College of Medicine as well as diagnostic radiology residents rotate through IR regularly. Many DR residents at UVMMC pursue Early Specialization in IR training (ESIR) as part of their radiology residency, and these individuals share in the didactic educational curriculum of the IR Residents. All IR Residents are given the opportunity to participate in the education of residents and medical students that rotate through IR.
