DEI Curriculum

We value people with a variety of experiences and backgrounds in our program, our institution, and our community. As a program, we feel morally compelled to hear differing opinions and perspectives, and we make strong efforts in recruitment to fulfill this philosophy. Our goals are to make a welcoming environment for all trainees, teach physicians to understand how social inequity and injustice impact health outcomes and patient care, and to use our position of privilege to make a meaningful impact on society.

Our program includes protected time for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training in an emerging curriculum format to adapt to the current needs of our residents. Recent topics include racism in medicine, bystander intervention, cultural humility, implicit bias awareness, trauma-informed care, and gender-affirming care. Our goals are to implement DEI education into all of our educational materials, rather than taught “on an island.” We welcome feedback and interest from our residents to meet these goals.
