Message from the Director
Welcome to the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship at the UVM Medical Center. When you join our program, you will find yourself immersed from day one in a curriculum that will prepare you to excel in either academic or community practice, or to pursue advanced fellowship. You will become an integral a part of a small, tight-knit, and dedicated academic group, located at intersection of the shores of Lake Champlain and foothills of the Green Mountains of Northern Vermont. Our program is designed to provide you the skills, knowledge, and opportunity for scholarly endeavors that will allow you to thrive in any practice setting.
For over 30 years the ACGME-accredited, three-year training program in GI and Hepatology fellowship at UVMMC has been providing fellows with exceptional clinical training. You will have at least 18 months dedicated to both inpatient and outpatient clinical rotations with the opportunity to perform more than 1500 endoscopic procedures, including involvement with advanced endoscopic procedures. The exceptional training has translated into a 100% board pass rate since the inception of the fellowship program.
In addition, over your three years, you will have at least 12 months of designated research time. The scholarly opportunity available at UVMMC allows our fellows have the opportunity to present yearly at the national meetings in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Given the diversity of career choices within Gastroenterology and Hepatology, you will have the opportunity to tailor your third year of training to your specific interests.
There is one main teaching hospital through which the fellows will rotate, the Medical Center Campus of UVM Medical Center which serves a diverse patient population. Your success will be supported by dedicated faculty in a small academic group with individualized attention, as well as the support of an excellent clinical team of nurses, pharmacists, and hard-working support staff.
We sincerely thank you for your interest in joining us. Please explore more details on our website, contact us for additional information, or submit an application through ERAS.
