Message from the Director
At the University of Vermont Medical Center, we seek to guide and promote fellows on their individual path. To achieve this, the first and second year of fellowship are devoted to acquiring core clinical skills. Rotations provide high-volume hands-on experience in all aspects of invasive and noninvasive cardiology. The unique Third Year of the UVM Cardiovascular Fellowship contains rotations in advanced heart failure, preventive cardiology and vascular medicine and is otherwise devoted to individualized subspecialty training and research.
We strive to create an inclusive and equitable environment for learning. This allows us to be the professional home for a diverse group of fellows, so that we can better serve our communities and cardiovascular medicine as a whole.
We believe in hands-on teaching. Our faculty, leaders in their field, all devote a substantial portion of their time to fellow education. Our fellows are learners, curriculum designers, presenters, and teachers. The educational environment is more than a byproduct of being in an academic environment for us, it is at the center of what we do.
We excel in collaboration. At UVMMC, inter-disciplinary collaboration is the norm, and it defines some of the best aspects of our training program. Our fellows are at the core of, and often leaders of, inter-professional cardiovascular teams. Fellow education is enhanced by our structured collaborations with cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, radiologists, vascular surgeons, epidemiologists, outcomes researchers, pathologists, and others.
Our goal is to train outstanding cardiovascular physicians who have the skills and knowledge to achieve their career goals. Our graduates are equipped to improve cardiovascular health in any setting, from research or sub-specialty cardiology to continuity care, and to thrive in their chosen field.

We understand that a lack of representation leads to suboptimal training and patient care.
