COLCHESTER, Vt. – The University of Vermont Health Network - Home Health & Hospice is pleased to welcome three new members to its 2021 board of directors. The trio — Scott Comeau, Pam Mackenzie and Jan Demers — brings diverse professional and volunteer experience gathered over many years supporting their respective communities.

“We’re thrilled to welcome these dedicated public service professionals and the expertise they bring to the Home Health & Hospice team,” said Adrianne Johnson Ross, Home Health & Hospice’s president and chief operating officer.

Scott Comeau is Vermont Energy Investment Corporation (VEIC)’s chief financial officer, where his team tracks the organization’s financial, information technology and legal operations and he contributes to long-term strategic planning. Comeau believes that through transparency and broader financial understanding, organizations become more effective and collaborative.

In addition to his VEIC responsibilities, Comeau has served on the board of the Vermont Energy Education Program since 2013. He received his undergraduate degree from Ithaca College and master’s in business administration from Bentley University. He lives in Richmond with his wife Angela and three daughters.

Pam Mackenzie, born in Grand Junction, Colo., was raised in an Air Force family, which offered multiple travel opportunities. Mackenzie reports enjoying traveling, exploring and living in northern California, Arizona, Connecticut, Ohio, Virginia and Washington, D.C., until finding her forever home in Vermont.

Mackenzie enjoyed a career in telecommunications and in 2008, was recruited to Vermont to build 300 miles of fiber and chose to remain here when the project concluded in 2010. During her time in Vermont, Mackenzie has served as interim chief executive officer at the Greater Burlington YMCA, chair of the South Burlington City Council, and on the boards of Vermont PBS and the Vermont Telecommunications Authority. Mackenzie currently serves as vice president of Strategic Planning and Implementation for C2 Competitive Computing and regularly welcomes family to her South Burlington home.

Retiree Jan Demers joins us after a varied career in education, domestic violence prevention and intervention, hospice and palliative care, and economic development across Vermont and northern New York, most recently leading the Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity. Demers previously served as executive director of High Peaks Hospice and Palliative Care and brings with her extensive public relations, customer service, marketing, public speaking, grant writing and funding experience.

Demers, a resident of Burlington, was invited to become a community intern at The University of Vermont Medical Center, with a focus on addressing the effects of poverty upon health and wellness. Demers received 2016’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award from the Greater Burlington Multicultural Resource Center, and with partners UVM Medical Center and Champlain College, was awarded 2015’s United Way of Northwest Vermont’s Community Impact Award. She received the Con Hogan Award in 2019.

Demers’s board leadership experience includes with the Vermont Council on Homelessness, Pathways from Poverty Council, the Regional Plan for Sustainable Development, Continuum of Care – Chittenden County (Housing and Homeless Prevention) and Adirondack Medical Center.
