COLCHESTER, Vt. – Adrianne Johnson Ross, MHA, was today named Home Health & Hospice’s next president and chief operating officer. She is preceded by Judy Peterson, who is retiring in January 2021 after eight years leading the organization.

Johnson Ross’s appointment is effective immediately. She begins today and will transition into in her new role over the next few weeks.

Johnson Ross has for the past year served as interim chief executive officer/executive director for Pheno Health Technologies, Inc., in Minneapolis, Minn., where she was responsible for a $370 million multi-clinic operations budget and led a team of 250 staff. Prior to her most recent role, Johnson Ross served as director of patient access for Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis, and as interim director of Healthcare Operations for B. E. Smith, Inc.

“For decades and throughout this pandemic, home health and hospice professionals have played a crucial role in the delivery of essential care,” Johnson Ross said. “I believe home health is central to the future of health care delivery and will continue to expand and reach more families, ensuring patients will remain as comfortable as possible while receiving care. When I think of immersing myself in Home Health & Hospice’s community, what comes to mind is the opportunity to safely improve and optimize the care received at home,” she continued. “I am honored to join the Home Health & Hospice team in focusing on improving patient outcomes through the equitable delivery of services, integrated care coordination and leveraging of technology.”

Johnson Ross, a native of Orlando, Fla., where she gained her initial experience in the home health field, earned a master of science in Health Administration (MHA) from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and a bachelor of science in Industrial Organizational Psychology from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Ga.

She was appointed to her new role after an extensive nationwide search.

“Adrianne brings an innovative mindset to help us think about our services and care delivery to our community,” said Tara Pacy, chair of Home Health & Hospice’s board of directors and member of the executive search committee. “I am excited about her energy and passion for our organization.”

The committee’s recommendation of Johnson Ross for the position relied upon in-depth interviews with Home Health & Hospice and UVM Health Network leadership, as well as upon feedback shared by Home Health & Hospice staff. This feedback helped establish Johnson Ross as the right candidate for the position, Pacy explained.

‘Delivering the right care’

The search committee’s recommendation of Johnson Ross to the Home Health & Hospice board, and subsequently to The UVM Health Network board, was adopted by both bodies. Approvals are required by both Home Health & Hospice and UVM Health Network bylaws.

“The UVM Health Network is focused on delivering the right care at the right time in the right setting, including in the home. Home Health & Hospice plays a key role in fulfilling our mission, and its importance has only been magnified during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said John R. Brumsted, MD, president and chief executive officer for The University of Vermont Health Network. “We welcome Adrianne Johnson Ross, an experienced and talented health care administrator, to join our network and to lead Home Health & Hospice into the future so we can continue to meet the ever-evolving needs of our patients and communities.”
