PLATTSBURGH, NY (11/13/2024) – People can get into the holiday spirit while running for “a good Claus” at the second annual Santa Dash 5K Run/Walk. The event is being held on Saturday, December 7 at 11 am at Valcour Brewing Company in partnership with Adirondack Coast Events.

Proceeds will go toward scholarships supporting nurses at University of Vermont Health Network - Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) who are seeking to further their education and grow professionally. This includes taking additional classes, pursuing certifications, attending conferences and conducting research.

“In our profession, learning never stops. We’re always looking for the best evidence-based practices so we can continue providing high-quality care to our patients,” Abby Bennett, MSN, MBA, RN, Director of Nursing Research and Clinical Practice at CVPH. “Scholarships play an important role in supporting our nurses to follow their clinical passions.”

Connor Bond, BSN, RN, an Intensive Care Unit nurse at the hospital, is pursuing his dream to become a nurse practitioner thanks in part to the support of scholarships.

“I think it really motivates people to pursue their professional goals more,” Bond explains. “As much as we don’t like to talk about finances, it’s a big part of life. And a lot of people don’t follow their dreams because of costs.”

Bennett adds that it’s the patients who benefit in the long run. In many cases, nurses who further their education are able to bring what they learn back to their colleagues, leading to a better patient experience.

“We are very appreciative of the support from our community, and we can’t wait for a sea of Santas to hit the course around Valcour Brewing,” she says.

Participants are encouraged to dress in their favorite, family friendly, and festive Santa outfits – while also keeping the cold weather in mind. Santa hats will be handed out to the first 75 registered individuals.

Registration is $30 per person and can be completed online at the Adirondack Coast Events website. You can also register in person on the day of the race starting at 10:30 am.
