PLATTSBURGH, NY (7/11/2022) – A majority of the University of Vermont Health Network – Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) Family Medicine Residency graduating class of 2022 will continue practicing in the region, including at least one who is remaining as part of the UVM Health Network.

The Family Medicine Residency held its 2022 graduation ceremony on June 24. Graduates of the 3-year residency program are Paige Darby, MD, Althea Morrison, MD, Marten Peterson, MD, Tusa VanVogelpoel, MD and Steven Yang, MD.

“We couldn’t be more proud of this year’s graduating class. Not only did they survive the rigors of residency education, but they did so with more than half of their training in a pandemic setting,” CVPH Family Medicine Residency Program Director Marianna Worczak, MD said. “We are also grateful for the enormous support these residents received inside and outside of the organization. It takes a community of kind-hearted and dedicated people to train and grow such a wholesome class of new physicians.”

Dr. Yang is joining the primary care team at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. He noted how thrilled he was to come to the North Country for the residency and is excited to continue practicing medicine in the region.

Also staying in northern New York is Dr. Darby, who will practice in Peru at Adirondack Medical Practice. Dr. VanVogelpoel is relocating to Morrisville, VT to join Lamoille Health Partners. Dr. Morrison and Dr. Peterson are continuing to explore their options.

The graduation marked the culmination of a three-year training program for the Residents who completed rotations in emergency medicine, OB/GYN, pediatrics, cardiology, surgery, orthopedics, geriatrics and community medicine. Additionally, they saw their own patients in the CVPH Family Medicine Center at 159 Margaret Street or at Hudson Headwaters Health Network-Champlain Family Health in Champlain, NY.

The next class of residents has arrived to begin their training, including Jaspreet Bhogal, DO, Mark Jens, DO, Jeffrey Klotz, MD, Jared McDonald, MD, Aaron Rode, MD and Benjamin Young, DO. They are set to graduate in June 2025.
