Biographical Information
Dr. Alejandro Castro is an academic hospitalist at the University of Vermont Medical Center. As a physician in internal medicine, Dr. Castro often cares for patients who are hospitalized for a variety of health concerns. He specializes in performing lumbar puncture (spinal tap), thoracentesis and paracentesis, and his clinical interests include sepsis, pneumonia, COPD and heart failure. His top priority as a physician is to alleviate suffering by encouraging the body to heal with medicines, compassionate words and listening ears. He says, “Even when healing the body is not possible, I still aim to alleviate suffering using these same tools.”
Dr. Castro is also an assistant professor of General Internal Medicine at the Larner College of Medicine at UVM. His research interests include mindfulness and meditation, patient and provider communication, palliative care utilization and point of care ultrasound.
