In early 2017, the University of Vermont Medical Center launched Nursing Professional Governance (NPG), an innovative structure consisting of nurse-driven councils through which frontline staff partner with leadership to improve the care we provide to our patients and families. This model of shared governance has a dynamic framework that empowers nurses to influence decisions regarding their practice, placing inherent value on the wisdom and expertise of the nurse. Our alliance with the University of Vermont College of Nursing and Health Sciences allows our nurses the chance to work with the latest innovations in medicine. Through negotiated discounts and a tuition reimbursement program, many of our nurses have gone on to earn their BSN or MSN while employed.
