The Telemedicine Program of the University of Vermont Medical Center provides regional access to high-quality specialty medical consultation, emergency care, and education for healthcare providers, students, employees and patients throughout the University of Vermont Health Network.
The UVM Medical Center is the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the area and is the major teaching hospital for the Larner College of Medicine at UVM, the only medical school in the state. This academic medical center serves the residents of Vermont and northeastern New York State.
By bringing specialty medicine to patients throughout Vermont and northern New York, telemedicine helps The UVM Medical Center to deliver virtual care across the region. This is especially important in treating patients in rural areas, who otherwise would not have local or timely access to specialists at an academic medical center.

Telehealth Programs within the UVM Health Network
Our doctors provide real-time consultations in several clinical specialties in conjunction to regular care. Specialties include:
We collaborate with you via:
- Videoconferencing between you and your healthcare provider.
- Transmission of still images via MyChart, for your doctor’s review. A patient can log in to their account on MyChart, to answer questions related to their symptoms, upload a photo and your doctor will review and send you feedback.
- Electronic visits through MyChart.
- Remote monitoring of vital signs – In conjunction with the VNA, wireless devices get placed in your home and we monitor them electronically on a daily basis.
Telemedicine: How to Participate
To be able to participate in this program, you first need to consult with your doctor. We will go through a screening process with patients to find out their eligibility. You will need the following:
- A computer, smartphone or tablet. We currently use Zoom video conference software.
- Reliable internet.
