The University of Vermont Medical Center has received a gold-level Governor’s Award for Excellence in Worksite Wellness from the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.

The award recognizes programs at the UVM Medical Center that engaged 41 percent of its 8,800 employees. Key elements include biometric screenings, campaigns for lifestyle changes, online health assessments, and creative use of social media to engage the workforce. Wellness initiatives at the UVM Medical Center have been recognized by the State of Vermont for more than a decade.

The UVM Medical Center Wellness Steering Team, Employee Ambassadors and all the staff of UVM Health and Wellness, Frymoyer Community Health Resource Center and the Employee and Family Assistance departments contribute to the events, campaigns and programs that reach employees.

“Leaders at the UVM Medical Center are committed to wellness for our employees with inclusive and diverse programs and incentives for improving work-life balance and an overall sense of wellbeing,” said Craig Stevens, supervisor Employee Health Management.

"Vermont employers like the UVM Medical Center have come to understand that physically fit workers are more productive and invested in their careers, and business leaders see the benefits of worksite wellness programs to their bottom line," said Janet Franz, chair of the Governor's Council.
