JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Director of Communications and Engagement, Shared Services – UVMHN Home Health & Hospice, is a seasoned communications strategist, agile generalist and proven leader who brings deep experience and a broad range of skills to the role. With an entrepreneurial spirit, this individual is a working leader with a proactive orientation and demonstrated expertise in strategic communication planning and execution across all channels to inform, create awareness, engage and drive change. The Director is a relationship builder adept in strategies to connect with a variety of audiences and a collaborative partner accountable for guiding the work of the Communications and Engagement Strategies Shared Service in service of Home Health & Hospice and in alignment with affiliate, Network and Shared Service goals.

With a strong background in executive, organizational and key stakeholder communication and engagement, this individual works in close partnership with the President of Home Health & Hospice and its senior leadership team to identify, prioritize and respond to a variety of service needs. As the key communicator for the organization, this individual provides strategic consult, fully executes to support operational priorities, oversees local brand management and events. The Director also is the chief storyteller for the organization, mining for stories that highlight people, perspectives and progress to increase awareness of the value of Home Health & Hospice in the community and as part of a health system. Essential to this role is building and maintaining relationships that support the mission-driven success of Home Health & Hospice, working in partnership with the Development Shared Service, hospital affiliates and clinical areas, as well as externally with local business, not-for-profits and community leaders. 

As part of the Shared Service, the Director is actively engaged with Communications and Engagement Strategies as a key leader and collaborative partner on the Shared Service leadership team, accountable for advancing a best-in-class functional practice and for working in collaboration with leaders, projects and teams to ensure that our work is interconnected and informed across the Network. The Director works in partnership to leverage talent and expertise on central Shared Service teams in support of specialty areas such as strategic communication, media relations, issues management, marketing, advertising, social media, digital/web executions and operational systems. The Director also works in close partnership with the Government and Community Relations Shared Service for public affairs and community relations expertise and support.

EDUCATION:

BA in journalism, public relations, communications, integrated communications and marketing, public/government relations or a related field.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Eight to 10 years of progressive experience and proven leadership of internal and external communication and engagement functions in a high-volume and fast-paced environment. Journalism, public relations, agency, or external relations experience a plus.
  • Proven leader who has demonstrated the ability to work successfully with the senior executive of an organization and the senior leadership team.
  • Demonstrated success in advising and driving the vision of the executive leader.
  • Team player with a strong commitment to collaborative leadership, consultative partnership and relationship building.
  • Strong understanding of channel strategy and communicating across communications, media relations, engagement and digital/social disciplines. 
  • Direct supervision of individuals or teams.
  • Expertise with omnichannel strategy and execution.
  • Skilled in executive and employee communication, clinical, patient and healthcare consumer communication, organizational voice and brand story.
  • Adept in crafting and executing complex communication plans on emerging issues and topics, crisis communication and issues management.
  • Creative thinker with storytelling expertise in words, visuals and multimedia.
  • Expertise in audience identification and message development.
  • Experienced in virtual strategies such as Zoom or Teams meetings and webinars.
  • Skilled in the meaningful measurement of internal and external communication tactics with a discipline toward data-driven insights and ongoing improvement.
