Job Description

The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for supporting departmental and enterprise databases to include monitoring, maintenance, optimization, installation, backups/restores, and reporting to ensure the availability and performance of our key applications. The DBA will ensure security and protection of database assets and serve as a key resource on the technical team requiring a working knowledge of multiple software systems in use at the UVM Health Network and the interrelationships among those systems.  This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but not limited to the following):

  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance
  • Refine and automate processes, track issues, and document changes
  • Assist analysts with complex tuning and schema refinement
  • Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems
  • Perform scheduled maintenance after hours as required

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or other technical field or equivalent experience

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 or more years’ experience with Microsoft SQL Server in a 24/7 production environment
  • Hands-on experience driving improvements in performance via changes in database schema, query tuning, maintenance plans, and configuration
  • Experience performing disaster recovery exercises for critical databases and maintaining database failover mechanism (mirroring, log-shipping, clustering, etc.)
  • Strong SQL/T-SQL skills with hands-on experience in SQL performance tuning and optimization
  • Experience with SSRS reporting
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Idera SQLdm, LogicMonitor, and Splunk a plus
