- EFFICIENCY: Without the need to travel to meet with your provider, you'll save both time and money.
Here's How It Works
1. Log In to MyChart
You can access MyChart through the link at the top of the page, on your web browser, at MyChart.UVMHealth.org, or use the MyChart app on your smartphone or tablet. If you do not have a MyChart account, you can register for free at UVMHealth.org/MyChartSignUp.
2. Begin Your E-Visit
In the top navigation, click Visits (or, if using the app, click the E-Visit icon).
3. Fill Out the Questionnaire
Select the symptom that best fits your health concern, and answer the questions provided. Your answers, along with your medical record details, will be used by your provider to assess and treat you. If the provider determines that your condition requires a more in-depth assessment, you will be asked to schedule a video or in-person appointment.
4. View Your Results and Treatment Plan
Following your visit, you will get a secure MyChart message with your visit results and an appropriate treatment plan. This information will also appear in your After Visit Summary in MyChart.
Where Are MyChart E-Visits Available?
At this time, E-Visits are only available to primary care patients at the UVM Medical. We are working to expand E-Visit access for primary care patients at Central Vermont Medical Center, Porter Medical Center and Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital later in 2020.
E-Visits are for routine health concerns only, and are not a substitute for in-person or video visits with your provider. In an E-Visit, your provider knows only what you type in your questionnaire, so you should only use E-Visits for common health issues you can fully and accurately describe in writing. E-Visits may not be used for urgent or emergency issues.
Yes. The Epic MyChart patient portal is designed to protect your privacy and the security of your health information, and the E-Visit information you share through MyChart is secure and confidential.
Most insurance plans do not cover E-Visits, so patients will be billed $15 after the E-Visit is complete. It will not be billed through your insurance plan. If you are covered by Medicare, we will bill the Medicare program and there will be no charge to you.
If the provider determines that an in-person visit is required, or terminates the E-Visit, you will not be charged. Any additional charges related to pharmacy, labs, x-rays or other tests will be billed separately and through your insurance plan, if applicable.
Your E-Visit will be reviewed by a provider from your primary care practice. Your E-Visit questionnaire and results will become a part of your permanent medical record and is available to both you and your provider.
Providers strive to respond within 24 hours for E-Visit requests submitted Monday – Thursday, 8 am – 5 pm, or Friday, 8 am – 12 pm. If your E-Visit request is submitted on Friday afternoon, weekends or holidays, we will strive to respond the next business day. Unforeseeable system failures or other service interruptions may occasionally slow or prevent E-Visit exchanges.
If a prescription is required, your provider will call it in to your preferred pharmacy.
You will receive a MyChart email alert when your results are ready. You can view your results and treatment plan in your secure MyChart messages, and it will also appear in your After Visit Summary.
