Breast Imaging and Mammograms in Burlington, VT
The University of Vermont Medical Center's Breast Imaging Service offers a full range of breast imaging options to patients in Burlington, VT, and northern New York. Our breast imaging services include mammograms, breast ultrasounds, breast MRIs and biopsies.
Our University of Vermont (UVM) Medical Group breast imaging specialists are radiologists specially trained in this body imaging sub-specialty. You'll be cared for by experienced mammography technologists and medical assistants who know how to make patients as comfortable as possible while capturing a precise image.
Our radiologists perform more than 25,000 mammograms a year using state-of-the-art digital equipment. This leads to better detection and more accurate findings for breast imaging patients, based on studies that reveal a positive correlation between the number of mammograms a radiologist reads and the accuracy of the results.
Some of the breast imaging services we offer include:
- Screening Mammograms/Annual Exams
- Diagnostic Mammograms
- Breast Ultrasound
- Breast MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
- High-Risk Breast Cancer Screening
- Image Guided Breast Biopsies
- Consultations on Breast Images taken elsewhere
The breast imaging physicians at the University of Vermont Medical Center recommend annual screening mammography beginning at age 40 as this regimen has the potential to save the most lives. Patients should discuss their personal risk factors for breast cancer with their doctors in order to make deicisions that include their own values and tolerances and receive a more personalized screening schedule.
A Breast Imaging Center of Excellence
Named a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology, we provide our patients specialized expertise and, in many cases, exceed rigorous standards of breast imaging care. We were also recently awarded an accreditation by the American College of Radiology in Breast MRI-one of the first breast imaging centers in the nation to receive the prestigious award.
Experience Means Greater Accuracy
At The UVM Medical Center, we perform a high volume of mammograms-more than 25,000 a year-on state-of-the-art digital equipment. This leads to better detection and more accurate findings for patients, as studies have shown the more mammograms a radiologist reads, the more accurate the results. Experience counts when reading mammograms.
Are You Due for a Mammogram? Who Needs One?
If you are a woman age 40 or older and in good health, the American Cancer Society recommends you have a mammogram every year. Mammography is an important tool in early detection of breast cancer. Talk to your doctor and ask about your options for breast cancer screening. If you have questions about mammograms at The UVM Medical Center, please call us at 802-847-2446.
Mammograms Are Offered at Three Convenient Locations
The UVM Medical Center offers mammograms services at three locations in Vermont: 1 South Prospect Street, Burlington (UHC) the main hospital (Main Campus) in Burlington and the Fanny Allen Campus in Colchester. Breast Imaging services are available at the main hospital (Main Campus) in Burlington.
