Level I Trauma Center

The UVM Medical Center is a Level I Trauma Center, which means we meet or exceed strict national standards in providing the highest level of specialty care to trauma patients.

As a referral center serving the Vermont and northern New York with advanced-level trauma surgery and critical care, we are ready around the clock, 365 days a year, for any type of emergency. We care for approximately 1,000 trauma victims each year-people who have been critically injured in car, hunting or skiing accidents, as well as fires, drownings or shootings, among other incidents.

eHealth

Another way our trauma surgery specialists serve patients throughout the region is through the use of technology, which places The UVM Medical Center specialists with advanced expertise in the emergency rooms of 12 community hospitals in rural locations. Using two-way interactive video, this technology, known as eHealth, allows the local provider and the trauma surgeon to interact and develop a care plan when every second counts.

Injury Prevention Program

The UVM Medical Center offers a variety of injury prevention programs and resources to help you and your family live a healthier lifestyle. From falls and fire prevention to sports and helmet safety, our goal is to help you avoid injuries and feel good any time of the year.
