Building the Future of Patient Care

As the academic medical center partner of a four-hospital network, we must ensure we have the resources and flexibility to meet evolving patient care needs. We serve a population of greater than one million people in our region, provide a full range of inpatient and outpatient services from primary care to the most complex needs, and operate the region's only Level I Trauma Center. We are also a safety-net provider of critically important services to our region's most vulnerable populations.

Our Master Facilities Plan – part of a long-term strategy for meeting the health needs of our region – is fiscally responsible, minimizes our impact on the environment, and includes input from our patients and the community. The plan includes several building renovation and construction projects – inpatient, outpatient, and administrative – that support this master vision.

Patients expect and deserve health care facilities that offer privacy, quiet, and adequate space to attend to their individual and family needs. Contemporary hospital design standards align with that expectation, calling for single rooms for inpatients and more space for providers and the equipment they need to provide high quality care. At the same time, the trend in health care is toward more outpatient care, and a commitment to treating people close to home whenever possible.

The time is now right to invest in renewing our inpatient facilities, some of which are 50 to 70 years old. While they've served us well, they were constructed during a different era in health care. They need to be replaced or remodeled to be consistent with today's hospital design standards and patient care expectations.

We look forward to providing you with new and renovated facilities that offer a more accommodating space to heal, and match the high quality of health care that our doctors, nurses and staff deliver every day.
