Self-Managing Your Diabetes

Living with a chronic condition can be challenging physically and emotionally. At The University of Vermont Medical Center, diabetes care goes well beyond the diagnosis. Our team of diabetes specialists and the Community Health Team offer several classes and workshops that give participants the tools they need to manage their diabetes.

'Healthier Living with Diabetes' Workshop

The UVM Medical Center's free Healthier Living Workshops empower people living with chronic illness to take control of their health.  At the “Healthier Living with Diabetes” workshop, small groups of 10 to 15 participants meet weekly with two trained leaders for six weeks at locations throughout Chittenden County. Family members and friends who support participants are also invited to attend the workshops.

The workshop includes:

  • Preventing low blood sugar
  • Skin and foot care
  • Healthy eating
  • Weight management
  • Stress management
  • Communicating with family and health professionals
  • Problem-solving and goal setting
