Job Description

PLEASE NOTE: The Assistant Director will be responsible for the operations of the Hematology-Oncology Division of the Department of Medicine.  We will hire one Assistant Director for the Division (either clinical or non-clinical).

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The goal of the University of Vermont Medical Group (UVM MG) is to achieve integrated clinical delivery for our patients and referring providers within the context of an academic practice environment. In order to accomplish this goal, UVM MG must operate as a multi-specialty group to the fullest extent possible. The Assistant Director, Clinical is responsible for providing leadership, oversight and coordination of clinical activity within the assigned Health Care Service(s) through policies and procedures, orientation, on-going training, performance management and staff empowerment that supports the achievement of the optimal patient encounter. The Assistant Director, Clinical works with the Health Care Service Leadership Team and Director, Clinical Operations and Training to develop and direct efficient and effective patient workflows and operational processes within the assigned Health Care Service(s). S/he is responsibility for the regulatory compliance and scope of clinical practice within the Health Care Service. S/he serves as a knowledge expert of PRISM functionality and is responsible for ensuring its optimal use within the Health Care Service(s). S/he understands the clinical activity within the Health Care Service(s), serving to ensure compliance with licensure, credentialing and scope of practice for all clinical activities. The Assistant Director, Clinical partners with the Assistant Director, Business to serve as second in command within a large Health Care Service with responsibilities as delegated by the Director.

EDUCATION:

State of Vermont Registered Nurse (RN) license required. The University of Vermont Medical Center is moving toward an all Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) workforce. All external candidates hired into, or current employees promoted to, a RN position will be required to obtain their BSN as outlined in the terms of their offer letter. Current internal RNs are strongly encouraged to pursue a BSN to support this initiative.Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Health Administration or other related clinical degree. Preference will be given to nursing professionals. The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s Degree in Nursing, Health Administration or related degree. RN or other clinical license required.

EXPERIENCE:

Must have a minimum of 3 - 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a health care management setting, preferably in an academic physician practice setting. Solid knowledge base as it relates to clinical operations and practice. Working knowledge of electronic health records, Joint Commission Standards, NCQA Standards, CMS Standards, CLIA and other appropriate regulatory standards, license and credentialing for professional and paraprofessional staff.

Ideal candidate will have oncology experience.
