Lifelong Learning Opportunities in Nursing

Extensive nursing professional development and education programs are available. And, as a UVM Medical Center employee, you are eligible for tuition reimbursement. We offer the following opportunities:

  • Nurse Residency Program for new nurse graduates, or nurses with less than six months of experience, to transition to an acute-care nursing environment.
  • On-site simulation lab, as well as Nursing Simulation education and a new Simulation Training Center for new nurse graduates and experienced-nurse orientation.
  • Our alliance with the University of Vermont College of Medicine and College of Nursing and Health Sciences enables our nurses to work with the latest innovations in medicine and health care, sharing new knowledge about disease and wellness. The university's Continuing Education program offers several intensive programs available for specialized nursing audiences to participate in educating the next generation of health care professionals and scientists.
  • Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) courses and Nursing Grand Rounds: Available twice monthly, offering CE credits, and covering clinical and professional topics of special interest to nurses.

  • EKG Interpretation Workshop
  • Core content programs in nursing specialty areas
  • Preceptor workshop: A two-day workshop offering education for nurses who would like to mentor new nurses on the job

Our nurses have full access to the Dana Medical Library at the UVM's College of Medicine, which includes hundreds of electronic nursing journals, dedicated reference librarians and a variety of online continuing education courses for nurses.
