ENT Services: The UVM Medical Center Approach

We practice multidisciplinary care, working with experts both within our department and in other specialties to provide the most comprehensive care possible. We offer two multidisciplinary clinics for our adult patients:

Head and Neck Oncology Clinic

We provide services for patients with head and neck tumors. From your initial diagnosis through treatment, reconstruction and recovery, our head and neck team will be with you every step of the way. Specialists in our Head and Neck Oncology clinic include:

Neurotology

Disorders of the skull base such as pituitary tumors, posterior fossa neoplasms, temporal bone lesions, and tumors of the anterior skull base are treated surgically through joint collaboration with The UVM Medical Center's division of Neurosurgery.

A comprehensive Cochlear Implant Program, in the management of profound sensorineural hearing loss, utilizes the resources of surgical technology, audiology, deaf educators, and social services providers.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Patients with obstructive sleep apnea are cared for jointly by The UVM Medical Center's departments of Pulmonary Medicine and Neurology. Patients unable to be managed with positive pressure ventilation (CPAP) are referred for management with a variety of surgical techniques, including nasal septoplasty, UVPP, and tongue advancement techniques.

Facial Reconstruction after MOHS Surgery

This collaborative service exists in conjunction with UVM Medical Center's division of Dermatology. Special reconstructive problems are discussed and shared between the MOHS chemosurgeon and the otolaryngologic facial plastic surgeon.

Voice Clinic and Laryngology

Our voice specialists provide services for a wide range of voice disorders. In addition to our laryngologists, your team will also include a speech therapist who has specialized training in voice disorders. We work with our patients, including professional voice patients such as singers, to treat and manage their conditions. Some common voice conditions we treat include:

  • Vocal cord paralysis
  • Spasmodic dysphonia
  • Nodules or polyps
  • Hoarseness
  • Lesions of the vocal cords

Endocrine Disorders and Tumors

In conjunction with The UVM Medical Center's Endocrinology program, patients with thyroid malignancy are jointly managed to include provisions for adjunctive radioactive iodine and special follow-up considerations such as Thyrogen stimulation.

Focused parathyroid surgery utilizing intraoperative parathyroid hormone assay is a unique management option.
