House Staff Benefits Program Vacation

Paid for by UVM Medical Center. Eligible upon employment. All UVM Medical Center Residents receive three weeks of vacation annually.

Disability Insurance (Long-Term Disability Plan)

Paid for by UVM Medical Center. Eligible on July 1. You receive partial income protection after three months of illness or disability, until your recovery or age 65.

Medical Insurance (Choice of Health Insurance Plans Available)

Paid for by UVM Medical Center and you (your contribution based on plan selected). Eligible on the first day of employment. You have the choice of two health insurance plans designed to best meet your needs and those of your dependents.

Dental Insurance

Paid for by UVM Medical Center and you. Eligible on the first day of employment. You receive usual and customary dental insurance for you and your dependents.

Professional Liability Insurance

Paid for by UVM Medical Center. Eligible upon employment. You receive malpractice insurance which provides full coverage for you in all UVM Medical Center job duties.

Basic Life Insurance

Paid for by UVM Medical Center and you. Eligible on the first of the month after employment. UVM Medical Center pays for benefits equal to two times your annual salary paid to your beneficiary. Additional optional coverage for you and your dependents may be purchased at a low cost. (A statement of health may be required depending on level of coverage elected.)

Retirement Plan

UVM Medical Center offers a 403(b) defined contribution retirement plan. House Staff may participate in this plan by making personal contributions up to 100% of eligible salary up to the IRS annual limit. Employer contributions are subject to a six-month waiting period. Resident Physicians making a 3% elective salary deferral will receive a 2% employer Matching contribution.

The employer contribution will be prorated accordingly should the elective deferral be less than 3%. These employer Matching contributions will be subject to a 3-year vesting schedule. More detailed information, including investment company information and the types of funds, will be made available upon commencement of House Staff appointment.
