The University of Vermont Health Network has significantly expanded video conferencing in Vermont and New York in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As most of us stay home to help flatten the curve of the outbreak, this expanded tool could not come at a better time to help protect our communities while also preserving access to care.

Here's how it works:

First, talk with your doctor if a video visit is right for you. If so, you'll be scheduled and contacted by our support team to help you prepare, which includes downloading the Zoom Cloud Meetings app either from the app store onto your iPhone or iPad or from Google Play onto your Android.

If you need another option, our support staff will be able to help.

“Ensuring access to medical care for our patients is a top priority for the University of Vermont Health Network. We are expanding telemedicine capabilities to meet our patients' needs while ensuring their safety as well as the safety of our clinicians and staff,” said UVM Health Network Senior Vice President and Chief Population Health and Quality Officer Howard Schapiro, MD.

Video conference visits are available at all University of Vermont Health Network sites including the University of Vermont Medical Center, Porter Medical Center and Central Vermont Medical Center in Vermont, as well as Elizabethtown Community Hospital, Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital and Alice Hyde Medical Center in New York.

Efforts are also being made to offer video visits for psychiatry and psychology services as well as gastrointestinal medicine and cardiology.

“We are feverishly trying to get to every provider out there to provide them with the necessary tools to stand up this capability,” said UVM Health Network Director of eHealth Services Todd Young.

Ask your provider if a video visit is right for you. For more information about UVM Health Networks response to the coronavirus, visit, www.uvmhealth.org/coronavirus.

UPDATE: Recently, you may have heard reports of security and privacy issues with Zoom and we want to reassure you that the Zoom program that UVM Health Network has implemented across our practices is secure and private. To learn more about our security procedures, read more here.
